Per Florida Statute, poll workers are required to train prior to each election. Training for countywide elections is typically offered over several days and in a variety of locations. The type of training and number of classes offered are dependent on the needs of each election. To be assigned a poll worker position, you will be required to complete a brief assessment at the end of training with a minimum passing score.
Please see Requirements above regarding poll worker eligibility before submitting the application.
Poll workers are paid a stipend for their time based on position in accordance with the Poll Worker Pay Schedule. Importantly, to be paid the stipend, poll workers must participate in mandatory training, pre-elections setup and assigned Election Day Duties.
With several elections already on the Elections Calendar, there are many opportunities to serve as a poll worker this year and beyond.
We do our best to place poll workers at their home precinct; however, if their precinct is full, they may be assigned to another nearby precinct.
Poll workers must be at their assigned polling place at 5:30 a.m. on Election Day. Polls are officially open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Importantly, poll workers are not permitted to leave their assigned polling place on Election Day, and are urged to vote early or by vote-by-mail ballot.
Once you have worked at the polls on Election Day, your poll worker record will remain active. Meaning, you will not have to reapply to be a poll worker for future elections. Training, however, is mandatory for all poll workers prior to each election.
To confirm that you are still active in our poll worker database, please call 305-499-8448 or email pwinformation@votemiamidade.gov.
The Office of the Supervisor of Elections greatly encourages high school, college and university students to become involved in the democratic process. Poll workers play an essential role in that process on Election Day. While serving as a poll worker, students will receive a stipend, and if eligible, may also accrue service learning hours. If you are interested or have any questions related to this opportunity, please email pwinformation@votemiamidade.gov.
